Installing your eSIM

Install before you fly. Adding the eSIM needs an internet connection — do it on home or hotel wifi, not after you land with no data. It sits dormant until you switch it on.

Does my phone support it?

Two things have to be true:

On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and look for "Available SIM" or an EID. On Android: Settings → About phone → look for an EID. No EID means no eSIM.

iPhone

  1. Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Service) → Add eSIM.
  2. Choose "Use QR Code" and point the camera at the code on your order page.
  3. Label it something you will recognise — "Clear Roam Japan" — and leave your usual SIM as the default line for calls and messages.
  4. When you arrive: Settings → Cellular → select the Clear Roam line → turn on Data Roaming. That switch is what makes the plan work, and it does not cost extra.

Requires iOS 17.4 or later for one-tap install links.

Android

  1. Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add eSIM (wording varies by manufacturer).
  2. Scan the QR code from your order page.
  3. When you arrive, enable the Clear Roam SIM and turn on roaming for it.

Requires Android 10 or later for one-tap install links.

Entering it by hand

If the camera will not read the code, every order page also shows the two fields it contains. Choose "Enter details manually" and type the SM-DP+ address into the server field and the activation code into the code field. Both are case-sensitive.

Still stuck?

Email info@bearacle.com with the address of your order page. An eSIM you have not installed can be refunded; one that has already connected to a network cannot, because the data has been bought from the carrier by then.

What should we call you?

It goes on your receipts and on anything we send you. A first name is plenty.
